Although protozoans are an extremely artifical group, since they include a wide variety of life forms, we usually call their dormant, environment-resistant forms cysts. A cyst, contrary to the trophozoite form, is unable to feed or move by itself, but is much more resistant to harsh conditions and may therefore be vital for survival at some times.
