Sebaceous glands in the skin secrete an oily or waxy substance called sebum.

Explanation:

Sebum is made up of triglycerides, wax esters, squalene, and metabolites of fat producing cells.

It helps to lubricate and waterproof the skin and hair of mammals. The insoluble fatty acids contained within his sebum have broad antimicrobial activity.

Overactive sebaceous glands produce excess sebum and may give rise to medical conditions like acne, sebaceous cysts, hyperplasia and sebaceous adenoma.
