What is the prime meridian?

The prime meridian is a longitudinal line (running between the poles) that is used to measure East-West locations in terms of degrees away from the prime meridian. Such a meridian could be located anywhere but by convention it runs through Greenwich, England (that is Greenwich England is considered to be at longitude #0^o#).
