What is the role of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) in organisms?

1 Answer

Inheritance of characters from one generation to the next generation.

Explanation:

The DNA is generic material. It is responsible for transfer of characters from the parents to their offspring.
The sequences of the nucleotide in the DNA determines the chain of the polypeptide of amino acids during the protein synthesis. These polypeptides chains ultimately form the bio-catalysts i.e., enzymes. The enzymes catalyze all the biological reactions in an organism.
But in case of organisms where DNA is absent, the RNA works as the genetic material e.g., TMV i.e., Tobacco Mosaic Virus.
