What is the role of the primers in PCR?

RNA Primer is a short oligonucleotide strand which is complementary to our gene of intrest , hence it will form pairing with it.
Now , DNA polymerase will add the nucleotides in continuation to primer. DNA polymerase can't simply add the nucleotides based on complementarity , it needs the help of RNA primer.
