When you have two sets of coordinates, they are #( x_1 , y_1)# and #(x_2,y_2)#. It doesn't matter what set of coordinates are which because you will get the same slope if you do it right.

So, you can make #(-3,-8) # be # (x_1,y_1)# and #(0,-2)# be #(x_2,y_2)#. Then, just plug it into the slope equation.

#(-2-(-8))/(0-(-3))=(-2+8)/(0+3)=6/3=2#
