It is the absorbtion of western culture.

Explanation:

Russia was traditionally a country whose culture was dominated by Eastern influences. The person who is most associated with the westernization of Russia is Peter The Great. He ruled Russia from 1682 to 1725.

Peter travelled extensively in Western Europe and came to the conclusion that for Russia to develop as a major power she had to modernise and absorb Western cultures.

His most famous example is the construction of St Petersburg.
