An extremely uneasy if not hostile one.

Explanation:

Although the two had, eventually, been allies during World War 2 as soon as hostilities ended they were opponents.

The world in 1945 was very different from that of 1939. The USA and Soviet Union emerged as superpowers dominating world politics. However their political and economic systems were conflicting worlds of free market capitalism and state controlled communism.

In the following decades their relationship was dominated by the Cold War. never actually directly at with with each other, they both built huge nuclear arsenals and competed for dominance through the formation of alliances and support for governments and movements throughout the world.

Immediately after World War 2, Europe, Germany and even Berlin were divided into East and West, reflecting the divisions between the USA and Soviet Union who dominated West and East respectively.
