The Ku Klux Klan was resurrected by reverend Simmons after the popularity of a 1915 movie called "The Birth of Nation" which praises the original clan.

It became very popular in the twenties and its membership reached over 5 million. The first clan had been a terrorist organization which persecuted freed slaves and carpetbaggers(Northern whites who helped them).
