Hitler made his intentions clear in Mein Kampf. German speaking people needed more living space in the East. This could only be achieved through aggression.

The land was in the East because Hitler regarded the peoples who occupied these lands as racially inferior.

With the creation of a Greater Germany as Austria was incorporated through the Anschluss and the Sudetenland was incorporated, Hitler's expansionist policy had begun. This would lead to World War 2 and in 1941 the invasion of the Soviet Union with catastrophic loss of life.
