Pro Free state forces under John Brown on May 24 murdered 5 people in a pro slavery town. John Brown would go on to execute the raid on the armory at Harper's Ferry to instigate a Slave revolt, and was executed.

The fighting in Kansas was actually the beginning of the American Civil War.
