I 1972 a small group of burglars were caught breaking into the Watergate hotel during the Democratic Convention.What started out as a routine crime escalated as a clear link became established between the burglars and the White House.

Nixon attempted to deny the links and repeatedly refused to release evidence including crucial White House tapes. Eventually he resigned when his position became hopeless and was immediately pardoned of all crimes.
