Both were heredity and hierarchical systems. The shogun was a parallelsl to the king and both required loyalty from the levels below and people at the lowest level with almost no rights or freedom. t

The similarities are remarkable. The Clan warfare in Japan cause civil disruptions creating the need for protection from a warrior class.
( the Samurai ) External invasions from the Islamic Empire, Viking, and Mongols ( and other horsemen from Asia) created civil disruptions that required protection from a warrior class. ( armored knights)

The King had nobles that served him called vassals ( Barons, Counts and others.
The Shogun had nobles that served him call Daminos

The Knights served the nobles in the feudal system.

The Samurai served the nobles in the Shogun system.

The peasants in both systems tilled the land and served the nobles,

The Pope was theoretically superior to the King spiritually but the Kings often ignored the Pope. but as leader of the religion had great power.

The Emperor was theoretically superior to the Shogun as the spiritual leader of the religion but the Shogun often ignored the Emperor.
