comet shoe maker levy split into parts and struck Jupiter between July16 and July 22.

Explanation:

The side of Jupiter was not visible from earth at time of collision byt after few hours came into sight with large black spots.
Hubble telescope detected Sulfur compounds and ammonia The marks were visible for few months.enter image source here at the spots later.
