I would say Spanish flu.

Explanation:

Spanish flu has this name because its first victim apparently was located in Spain.
The reality is that it has already started to affect the majority of belligerent nations but to maintain morale the news about the outbreak was censored. Only Spain and Spanish newspapers could talk freely about the disease.

It was an incredibly deadly disease that killed probably up to 100 million people around the globe!
Compared to the previous outbreaks of bubonic plague it killed far more people (although during the Plagues epidemic the World population was probably smaller and more spread than in 1918).
