An ocean route from the Atlantic to the Pacific coast of North America via the Arctic Ocean.

Explanation:

One of the first to attempt to explore the route was Henry Hudson. His crew mutinied, he was cast adrift and was never heard of again. He discovered Hudson's Bay.

The Franklin expedition tried as well and disappeared with great loss of life.

The route was not successfully crossed until the mid 20th Century.
