The Patriot Act was passed after 9/11 to increase the power of agencies such as the CIA, the FBI or the NSA

Explanation:

The Patriot Act weakened individual liberties and gave the federal government(and its agencies) the power to deprive citizens of life, freedom or property without due process of law.

This act is technically unconstitutional but it was justified by the threat of terrorism. It also gave the federal government an infinite power to spy on its citizens and to violate their privacy.
