Tens of thousands died even though they were innocent

Explanation:

The Great Terror(1793-1794) is responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands (hundreds of thousands if we include the deaths of those massacred in Vendée). People were executed for no viable reasonst(they were nobles or priests for instance). Anyone who threatened the revolution was to be executed by the Jacobin rulers. They brought some positive aspect such as the end of slavery(thanks to Robespierre) but they are remembered mostly for their tyranny

In Vendée, a region in which a civil war had occurred, they organized a genocide. Around half a million people were massacred, an entire region had to be exterminated. They went as far as making human soap and leather with the victims.
