The Black Codes were laws which regulated the practice of slavery in the United States.
Explanation:
Slavery was an institution in the United States, just like any institutions laws concerning it had to be abided by. Each state had its Black codes and Mississippi had one of the fiercest in all the USA.
Black codes were tougher in the South before slavery was abolished in the North.
