Nevertheless they favored Zionism over Arabic nationalism in 1967 and 1973, which caused the oil shock as a retribution for the support of Israel. In the eighties Saddam Hussein was supported by the USA in his struggle against Iran which was led by Khomeini at that time.

Arab nationalists such as Nader were very critical of the USA despite their intervention in 1956 to prevent the Suez from being controlled by Britain and France. Zionism was indeed strongly opposed by the Arab nationalists.
