The Act was a response to Metis concerns. It allayed those fears temporarily but a lot of constitutional law was generated over the next 115 years. It didn't work out for the Metis.

Explanation:

The Manitoba Act created and area around the Red River colony that was called Manitoba but actual land grants were stalled for many Metis and they left. Language and Education rights were guaranteed but were governed by unconstitutional Laws for many years.

The Act clearly stated that the Canadian Government ruled the lands and resources of Manitoba and Rupert's Land (soon to be the Northwest Territories).

A flood of white settlers and a British led Military expedition wrestled local control away from the Metis.

Metis dissatisfaction turned into the Riel Rebellion in Saskatchewan in 1885.
