Collective ownership of production means

Explanation:

Marx longed for a classless society. His conception of class warfare(or class struggle) meant that some people owned production means, and some did not. The first ones constituted the dominant class and the others were the dominated class. In the case of Capitalist society, the Bourgeoisie was the dominant class and they did not own the dominated class physically(as it was the case in a feudal or slave society).

Marx considered a World Revolution of the Proletariat necessary to overthrow capitalism. Capitalism was a historic transition in his philosophical conception of History. It meant the old feudal society could be destroyed and a new modern one could be erected on the ashes of the latter. The "Dictatorship of the Proletariat" was part of the "socialist phase" which was meant to be a transition between capitalism and communism.

It meant the Proletariat to seize the state(which is inherently tyrannical for Marx) temporarily in order to destroy the class structure by confiscating production means. The State is indeed the necessary tool of the dominant class to control the economy and thus society. Once the phase completed and private property abolished, Communism emerges. It is meant to be a world classless and stateless society. Instead of exploitation it is supposed to be based on the principle of "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs"
