Although the USA and USSR were aliens during World War 2, their alliance was uneasy.
They had fundamentally different economic and political systems and even before the war ended it was clear there would be major clashes. These were reflected in conferences such as Yalta and Potsdam.
When the war ended Europe, Germany and Berlin were quickly divided into US allied West and Soviet dominated East.
Such divisions reflected the new Cold War as the superpowers competed and challenged each other but did not come into direct conflict.
It lasted until the demise of communism in the late 80's.
