About 35% (4 million) of all Atlantic Slave Trade slaves ended up in Brazil the rest were spread around the Caribbean, relatively few went directly to North America. The combination of heavy work, insufficient food, bad living conditions and disease killed many in the Caribbean and Brazil. Owners had to keep importing there to maintain numbers. In contrast numbers in American increased through reproduction.
