The earth's tilt

Explanation:

The change in the distance between the earth has no effect on causing the seasons. Remember that the North and South Hemisphere have opposite seasons at the same time of the year. In fact, in the North Hemisphere, the sun is actually closer to the earth in the winter than it is in the summer.

In the winter, earth's tilt causes sunlight to be spread over a larger area. Since energy is spread out more, the temperature is slightly lower. The opposite is true for summer.
