#0.5#

Explanation:

Ok,lets consider we have really no idea about which one is bigger.

But we know that we will get a positive value on subtracting a smaller number from a bigger number

So, we see #0.5-0.05=0.45#

so on subtracting #0.05# from #0.5# we got a positive number,so obviously #0.5>0.05#

#0.5=50/100# is the bigger number and #0.05=5/100# is the smaller number

Explanation:

One way we can do this is to look at the fractions they make. First let's divide by 1 to make the fraction (we can always divide any number by 1 and not change the value of that number):

#0.5/1, 0.05/1#

We can always multiply by 1 as well and not change the value of the number:

#0.5/1(1), 0.05/1(1)#

Keep in mind that any number divided by itself is equal to 1. #2/2=1, 5/5=1, etc# I'm going to choose to use #100/100# for our question:

#0.5/1(100/100), 0.05/1(100/100)#

and now do the multiplication:

#50/100, 5/100#

What these fractions say is that if I have something (like a pizza) and I cut it into 100 pieces (which is what the bottom number, the denominator tells me), I will have either 50 pieces of it (the left fraction's top number - the numerator) or 5 pieces of it (the right fraction's top number). Which one gives me more pizza? #50/100#

#0.5=50/100# is the bigger number and #0.05=5/100# is the smaller number
