Which is the solvent and solute? A solution is prepared by mixing 5.000 g of water with 23.66 g of t-butanol (C8H10O) to give a final solution of 37.46 L.

I know this is probably easy but I'm getting mixed responses from my friends.

Consider the concentration of each constituent,

#(5.000"g" * "mol"/(18.0"g"))/(0.03746"L") approx 7.41M# of water, and,

#(23.66"g" * "mol"/(122"g"))/(0.03746"L") approx 5.18M# of t-butanol

are the resultant concentrations.

Thus, the likely answer is that water is the solvent. This was likely a trick question because seemingly there is more t-butanol than water, although the molar quantity is less.
