The median is considered resistant to outliers because, while the mean takes into its calculations every single data value, the median is simply a measure of central tendency with the overall distribution taken into consideration, since any outliers would have been either a lower extreme or a higher extreme. When calculating for a median, however, you're really only looking at the middle values.
