Which parts of the water cycle require energy from the sun?

I would say that in the evaporation part, energy from the Sun is needed in order for water to change state.

Explanation:

I got interested immediately in this question because I just finished a course in Environmental Education where there was a very interesting part on the Water Cycle!

You may have a look at a typical chart describing this cycle:

You can see that energy from the Sun is used to produce:
1) Evaporation from the ocean;
2) Evapotranspiration from plants (basically sweating of plants!).
