More specifically, California. The CA congressional delegation when from having 30 members by the early 1960's to having 43 by the early 1980's. Also Arizona grew. It went from having 2 house members in early 1960 to have 4 by early 1980. A few western states grew by about 1 or 2 house members. California dominates in house members. They currently have 53.
