The air pressure is less at higher altitudes so there is less Oxygen in the air

Explanation:

The amount of molecules in the air is much less at higher altitudes ( the air is thinner) This means that there is less pressure to push the air into the lungs and a lower percentage of Oxygen in the air.
This makes it harder to breath. Pilots have to use Oxygen masks at high altitudes in order to function well.
