By giving sheltered bases and heavy weapons, China and the Soviet were Viet Minh's main supporters especially in first Indochina war.

Explanation:

As the war was considered to be one of the proxy wars in Cold war, Viet Minh was known as Vietnamese independence coalition that was clearly a Marxism-Leninism movement and had high possibility to form a communist state. So China, which was newly a communist state, and the Soviet, which had involved in Cold War against NATO before, lend a support to Viet Minh with a purpose to spread a communist sphere and interrupt the return of colonization of the western world, which later led to the competition in the third world and the awareness of 'Domino Theory'.
