Fritz Harkort was a German businessman at the beginning of the 17th century, He was significant in his attempts to bring English steam engine technology to Germany.

Explanation:

Fritz Harkort spent time in England during the Napoleonic Wars and became familiar with the work of James Watt. Following the War and in response to how he saw France developing following the French Revolution, Harkort believed that he had received a religious calling to bring stream-power based industrialization to Germany. Although personally his efforts were a financial failure, he inspired the image of Germany as an industrial state. (see Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan trilogy for a fantasy/steam-punk view of Germany from this perspective).
