The tangent of an angle CAN be less than 1.

The range of the tangent function is:

#-oo < tan(theta) < oo#

Explanation:

There are 2 cases where a tangent of an angle are less than 1:

  1. When #0 <= theta < pi/2#, then #tan(theta) < 1#
  2. When #theta < 0#, then #tan(theta) < 1#
