Why did Presidents want to expand presidential power?

They believed in a stronger executive power

Explanation:

Presidents such as Lincoln, the Roosevelts, Bush or Obama undermined the principle of separation of powers(judiciary, executive and legislative) because they were convinced that a strong central government(with a strong executive) was the best political solution.

This position was opposed by Constitutionalist and Conservatives who remained faithful to the American Political tradition embodied by the American Constitution.
