Geographers create regions on Earth to further distinguish and describe different geographical locations/areas in relation to each other. For example, if a scientist observes that in one country there tend to be many more fault lines on the western side than the eastern side, he may separate these two areas by declaring them separate regions. Declaring regions also makes it easier for scientists and geographers to compare the aspects of two areas in relation to each other.
