Why does a strip of polyethylene have a negative charge after it is rubbed with a piece of silk cloth?

When you rub silk cloth with polythene , there is generation of heat and the electrons after absorbing this heat jumps to higher levels and ultimately enters polythene.
As we know due to transfer of eletrons created +ve and -ve charges respectively , the latter will attract each other.
