hi u need to MENTION about the conditions
1.if the reaction is carried out in presence of base AND ESPECIALLY HEAT Elimination is always favoured
2.if reaction is carried out in presence of nucleophile it is always Substitution
SO if u are carrying out the reaction in presence of base it is elimination
There are two types of elimination
E1 and E2
1.E1 is in the presence of weak base
E1 is in presence of polar aprotic solvent
2.E2 is in the presence of strong base
E2 is favoured in polar aprotic solvent
