Explanation:
Atoms are stable because electrons revolving around the nucleus.
In heavier elements the number pf proton in nucleus is very large. Thus, due high force of attraction between nucleus and and revolving electrons would be very high.
The electrons would move in a spiral path and would fall into the nucleus. Thus, shielding effect is necessary.
