Atomic Weapons

Explanation:

The main argument for dropping the nuclear warheads on Japan is that we would have had to invade mainland Japan for them to surrender. Japanese soldiers weren't well known to just give up and surrender so the American Gov't decided to drop the bombs because a weapon of that destruction capabilities would scare any nation into submission. It is estimated that if we didn't drop the nukes and we invaded mainland Japan, it would have caused an estimated 400,000-800,000 deaths for American troops and there would up up to 10 million deaths for the Japanese (military and civilian, Japan is a small island with a densely concentrated population).

Others argue we shouldn't have dropped the nukes because it would lead to an arms race (which it did) between powerful countries (US and USSR, also known as the Cold War).

The death count from the bombs between Hiroshima and Nagasaki are 129,000-226,000. Compare that with the estimated death count from a mainland invasion, and thats why some people support dropping the nukes.
