Mainstream American distrust of the Japanese race after Pearl Harbor translated into the political reality of internment Camps. Canada followed suit.

Explanation:

Japanese homes and businesses were confiscated as well. They were handed over to other Americans.
Internment of foreign nationals, Germans and Austro-Hungarians (and its component nationals), also happened in Canada during the 1st World War.
