100 for rounding up and rounding off
0 for rounding down

Explanation:

When we round a number to the nearest hundred, we have to consider the digit to the right, which is the tens.

When we round a number, there are three ways:
-round up
-round down
-round off

When we ROUND UP a number, we take the smallest value possible that is larger than the figure. In this case, 100 is the smallest hundred that is larger than 53.

When we ROUND DOWN a number, we take the largest value possible that is smaller than the figure. In this case, 0 is the largest hundreds that is smaller than 53.

When we ROUND OFF a number, we see if the number exceeds half of the required accuracy, i.e. hundreds in this case. If the required number is more than half of the required accuracy, we ROUND UP the figure. If it is lower than half of the required accuracy, we ROUND DOWN the figure.

In this question, the required accuracy is hundreds, so half of it will be 50. As 53 is larger than 50, we ROUND UP the number to get 100 (correct to nearest hundreds)

#100#

Explanation:

If you round to "the nearest hundred", your answer will be a multiple of #100#

#0, 100, 200, 300 ....# and so on.

The values halfway between hundreds are fifties.

A number less than #50# is closer to the lower multiple of #100#
A number more than #50# is closer to the higher multiple of #100#

#53# lies between #0 and 100#

However it is more than #50#, so it is closer to #100#, and it rounds up to #100#

#47# is less than #50# so it would round down to #0#
