A semipermeable membrane is a membrane that allows some particles to pass through it, while not allowing others. This is due to the chemical composition and physical properties of the membrane and the chemical composition and physical properties of the particles.

The cell membrane is a semipermeable membrane made up of a phospholipid bilayer. It also contains transport protein molecules and protein channels to facilitate the transfer of molecules that would not otherwise be able to pass through the membrane.
