Just as you have short division for Dividing a number its equivalent in algebra is called Synthetic division

This can do a division of a polynomial by a monomial within seconds(THE COEFFICIENT OF X HAS TO BE 1)

divide x2 + 5x + 6 by x – 1

This Has Been Done Using Long Division Method

Now we shall use the synthetic division method

so lets go step by step

NO1 First, write the coefficients ONLY inside an upside-down division symbol:

Make sure you leave room inside, underneath the row of coefficients, to write another row of numbers later.

Now put the ADDITIVE INVERSE of the numerical in x-1.Which is 1

Now look at the given pictures carefully and understand

Now you can see that there is a resemblance between long and synthetic division.

SO now from synthetic division we can derive that the quotient of the division by taking the first 2 numbers from the lowermost section 1 and 6

Hence q = x + 6 and r = 15
