# Question #e772c

Jan 21, 2015

I agree with Welder and also I add that I was not able to find an easy way out to this one! Probably there is an easy way to solve it but I didn't find it.

What I tried was to use a "Brute Force" approach...
Basically, I tried values of $x$ in ${e}^{x} + x$ until I got the result, $5$!
I also cheated because I used Excel to do it for me!!!

As you can see, I built a table in Excel trying to get the required value:

In the first column are listed values of $x$ I've chosen to get as near as possible to $5$ starting from $1.30654$ and incrementing it by $0.000001$. In the second column you have the corresponding results calculated from ${e}^{x} + x$.
The best result was reached for: $x = 1.306559$

Well, I hope it helps...
