Generally, the Earth does not absorb water.
Water tends to collect in the ground, but is eventually taken up by roots or rises to the surface through a spring or even a geyser. The continuous cycle of water in our world results in the ever-moving process which affect us today. When water falls as rain, there are many places for it to go. The rain water could be drained to a lake or stream, taken in by roots, evaporated, or ingested. Once water evaporates, the water can then turn into condensation and fall as rain or precipitate in another location.
