Probability is the chance of something happening.

It is always expressed as a fraction or a percentage.

If it's certain something is going to happen the probability will be:
#P=1 or 100%# (note that #P# never gets higher than #1#
The opposite (not) will give a probability of #P=0or0%#

Probability is usually the ratio between what we call succes and the total number of possibilities.

Let me give you a few examples:
If you toss a fair coin, the probability of heads will be one of two possible outcomes:
#P(head)=1/2=50%#

With a die a 6 will be one of six possible outcomes:
#P(6)=1/6~~17%#
If we want the number on the die to be even:
#P(even)=3/6=1/2=50%#
