In log tables you only find numbers with just one digit before the decimal point. They go from 1.0000 to 9.9999.

So you have to convert #0.072#

You may write #0.072=7.2*1/100=7.2*10^-2#

Now you can find the #log 7.2#

Since the #log 10^-2=-2#
(this goes for any power of 10)

You can add the logs (as multiplication is adding of the logs)

So your answer will be #(log7.2)-2#

The same goes for large numbers:
If you want to find the log of #72000# remember that
#72000=7.2*10000=7.2*10^4#

And the answer will be #(log7.2)+4#
