Think about (or sketch) the standard graph for #r = cos theta#
Then stretch all #r# values by a factor of #3#.

You should get a circle.

Let us give values for #theta# and evaluate #r#:

Remember that for a certain angle #theta# the negative #r# value is the same but "reflected" about the origin (for example #r=-1.5# in figure).
