A structure is typically a whole made of parts. The shapes might be the parts of interest here and when they are combined the whole is being referred to as a structure.
The circle is a kind of simple whole.
Triangles and squares are often thought of as simple whole shapes, or they could be described as structures built out of line segments.
(It would help to have an example of a sentence using the word "structure" in the sense being asked about.)
